Guitar gods Invade 20 Monroe Live as Generation Axe

Guitar Gods Invade 20 Monroe Live
as the
Generation Axe Tour

November 20th five guitar gods/heroes invaded 20 Monroe live in Grand Rapids,
Michigan as the Generation Axe Tour.  On a Tuesday evening with a cold wind
blowing it was roughly mid 20’s waiting in line.  I didn’t expect that there would
be a long line but showed up early just in case and was surprised at the long
line that formed after I arrived there.

I soon found that all the waiting in the cold was well worth it after getting my
face melted by five guitar gods.  Nuno Bettencourt early in the show asked the
audience to “raise your hands if you are a musician”, and roughly 80% of an
almost sold out crowd raised their hands.  The others there were big fans of
great music.

The most memorable point of the whole show was when Zakk Wylde performed
Black Sabbath's song titled “War Pigs”.  Out of all the Black Sabbath songs that is
one of my and many other people's favorite songs. Throughout the evening the
audience was bathed in face melting guitar solos along with the band backing
them up with keyboards, drums and bass.

This is a show that I will try to see every year to come, no matter what weather
it’s well worth it.

The Generation Axe Tour consisted of Nuno Bettencourt on guitar/vocals, Zakk
Wylde on guitar/vocals, Steve Vai on guitar/vocals, Yngwie Malmsteen on guitar,
Tosin Abasi on guitar/vocals, Pete Griffin on bass, J.P. Bouvet on drums and
Nick Z. Marino on keyboard.

Zakk Wylde:  Most well known for being the guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne and
founder of Black Label Society.  Other bands he was in were Generation Axe,

Zakk Wylde in the show because of his musical influence on me as a musician.

Zakk Wylde’s song “In This River”, inspired me to create a musician’s memorial
song titled “Here’s To The Fallen But Not Forgotten” with Darrell Abbott and
roughly 65 other musicians in the song and/or painting.  Zakk Wylde’s influences
are Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Black Sabbath, Randy Rhoads, and Eddie Van
Halen.  Zakk Wylde is known for being a musician, songwriter, producer, and an
actor.

He plays guitar, bass, keyboard, piano, harmonica, and does vocals as well.

The total show was amazing because they would go play out in the crowd.
Each guitarist played with passion for their art, you can always tell when you see
the guitar face of each one playing. This is a show for fans and musicians alike
and you'll see me at the next show as both.
