Summer Of ‘99 and Beyond
Festival
At
Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre
Tinley Park, Illinois
On Sunday night the Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre hosted the second day of the Summer Of ‘99 and Beyond Festival. It was in the mid 80’s for the total show which started at 2 pm. In the afternoon.
I could hear the opening band playing some rock/grunge/punk music that drew me in to listen. But a while before that my assistant and I drove through Indiana with bumper to bumper traffic. I reminisced about the shows I’ve been covering, Mayhem Fests, Soundguarden with Nine Inch Nails, Fall Out Boy with Paramore.
I had high hope that the show would be worth the traffic and I was right it was well worth the hassle of driving. The amphitheatre was a warm welcome from years gone by. The first band up playing to warm up the crowd was a band called Ashes Of Billy.
The hardest job for an opening band to do is to get the crowd excited and get into the moment. This band had no problem starting out the show. There were nine bands total for the Sunday show. Creed was the band that was the headliner.
Creed: The band is composed of Scott Stapp on lead vocals, Mark Tremonti on lead guitar/ backing vocals, Scott Phillips on drums/ percussions/ keyboards, Brian Marshall on bass and Eric Friedman on rhythm guitar/ backing vocals. The band hails from Tallahassee, Florida and was formed in 1994. The song titled With Arms Wide Open inspired this reporter to write a song about creation itself called The Unseen Artist.
The song also made me think of my children being born and God creating them and the way I felt not worthy. But a christian friend said, “you are a broken vessel but God chooses you to do good.”
Everyone has a path so thank you.
Thank you Creed for inspiring musicians around the world you may never meet but touch others sonically.

Mammoth: The band is composed of Wolfgang Van Halen on lead vocals/ guitar/ keyboards/ piano/ bass/ drums/ percussion, Frank Sidoris on guitar/ backing vocals, Jonathan Jourdan on guitar/ backing vocals, Ronnie Ficarro on bass/ backing vocals and Garrett Whitlock on drums/ percussions. The band is on tour in support of their album titled The End which was released in 2025. On every album so far there is not one bad song to listen to.
While setting waiting to go up to photograph the band I spoke with a well seasoned photographer about my passion for music. I told him about a never-ending musicians memorial song that doesn’t end. “I have Eddie Van Halen in it talking Hendrix.”
“Hendrix says hey Eddie you ready? As Rhoads, Dime and Ozzy step in as a jam session goin on up in heaven goin 24/7.” The photographer say,” why don’t you contact Wolfgang or Valerie and let them know? Everytime I see a band playing inspires me to get up on stage and perform my songs.
Mammoth puts on a great show that I would love to see and cover again. Wolfgang Van Halen is such a gifted musician along with the rest of the band makes a total package. They sound better or just as good live, that is the true test of a band is how they connect with the crowd and their sound.

Editors Notes: I am inspired to cover shows, create music no one else has, create art from all the artists on stage. They inspire me to get enough courage to go on stage and sing. I use two songs, one is about the Creator titled The Unseen Artist. Creed’s song Arm Wide Open inspired me to make a total song dedicated to God.
The other song they inspire to perform is titled Here’s To The Fallen But Not Forgotten featuring 233 musicians memorialised at 65 pages that is a prayer/song/toast/painting. This song give God and Heaven thought about musicians in Heaven. Thank You.
